In connection with the Tytan Tuk Waterworks,
Second Section, a large quantity of pig-lead was obtained from
England in 1913 and 1914 for jointing the additional mains required.
In taking up the suction main laid in 1905-06 from the Inter- -mediate Reservoir to the Pumping Station, a considerably larger
quantity of lead was recovered than had been anticipated and there
was consequently a surplus when the jointing of the new mains had
been completed. This surplus has been found very useful in connect-
-ion with the laying of other mains, especially as the cost of the
lead is much below that prevailing during recent times.
2.
A quantity of the lead (value £76.30), intended
for general use, has been placed in Store and, in accordance with
instructions received in the past from the Hon. Colonial Treasurer,
this amount has been placed to credit of "Stores Depreciation".
3.
I would again call attention to the erroneous
results obtained by following this course. In the present case,
the Vote for "Tytam Tuk Waterworks 2nd. Section" has been debited
with the cost of work which is in no way connected with it. The
practice is entirely wrong and I would submit that it be altered
and that credit for the lead be given to the Tytan Tuk Works from
which the cost of it was originally defrayed.
4.
►
I would further submit that I be given general
authority to deal with matters of a similar natura in the same
manner.

It seems to me that the Director of Public
Works' argument is not sound.
